The scale of Brannan 10/453/0 runs from 0.75 to 0.80 g/ml, the band this M50 SP hydrometer covers within BS 718:1991. Its 270 mm body is divided every 0.001 g/ml across the 0.050 g/ml span of 0.75–0.80 g/ml, and the instrument is adjusted at 15 °C. Being part of the SP sub-series, 10/453/0 is specified to 0.001 g/ml accuracy, above that of the standard M50 series. Suited to low surface tension liquids, the 10/453/0 comes from a sub-series widely used in the petroleum industry that corresponds to IP 160.
