Brannan's 10/971/0 reads specific gravity between 1.50 and 1.55 on the 60/60 °F scale and is part of the general purpose M50 series. Because its scale sits at 1.50–1.55, the 10/971/0 is aimed at liquids denser than water, comparing their relative density with water. The 10/971/0 is 270 mm long, divided in 0.001 SG steps over a 0.050 SG span, and adjusted at 60 °F (15.6 °C). Like the other M50 instruments, the 10/971/0 is similar to hydrometers in ISO 650 and in the now superseded 1960 issue of BS 718.
