With a band of 1.65 to 1.70, it is used for liquids denser than water, giving relative density against water. Adjusted at 60 °F (15.6 °C), the M50 model 10/974/0 measures 270 mm overall and spans 0.050 SG with 0.001 SG divisions. The 10/974/0 follows the pattern of hydrometers in ISO 650 and the superseded 1960 edition of BS 718.
