Covering 1.85 to 1.90 SG, the Brannan 10/978/0 belongs to the M50 series of general purpose specific gravity hydrometers. It compares the relative density of a liquid with that of water, so this 1.85–1.90 model is intended for liquids denser than water. The 10/978/0 is 270 mm long, divided in 0.001 SG steps over a 0.050 SG span, and adjusted at 60 °F (15.6 °C). The 10/978/0 design is comparable to the hydrometers in ISO 650 and the withdrawn 1960 issue of British Standard 718.
