To accurately gauge pit depth, the Corrosion Inspector may span or cantilever across substantial sections of weight-loss corrosion using Western Instruments' Bridging Pit Gauge. The operator can only use the Main Blade for general inspection, but if the situation calls for it, he can build the Bridging Pit Gauge into one of two standard configurations: cantilevering or spanning. While the Digital Indicator or Dial is located in the middle of the Bridge in the Spanning arrangement, the Cantilevering assembly positions it at one end.
