• Granite surface plates have several advantages over cast iron surface plates, including being twice as hard as cast iron, being non-magnetic, and having a low thermal expansion.
• Because of the small grain structure and low stickiness, there are no burrs or protrusions; this maintains a high degree of flatness over a long service life and causes no harm to workpieces or instruments.
• Free from wringing, so there is no interruption of work.
• Use these plates in a temperature-controlled environment. Avoid working in direct sunlight because flatness inaccuracy occurs when there is a temperature difference between the working surface and the underside. Also, do not set a plate near an air conditioner or other such device.
