Palmer Wahl 16491 sighting tubes fit R40 and R60 fixed infrared thermometers on an M30 x 1 thread and come in 100 mm (3.94 in) or 300 mm (11.81 in) lengths, with a 1/2 in bore and 3/4 in outside diameter. The tube material sets the maximum temperature, so choose the version to suit the heat at the sighting point.

- 16491-1: 304 stainless steel, up to 800 °C (1500 °F)
- 16491-2: Inconel, up to 1100 °C (2000 °F)
- 16491-4: 99.8% high purity alumina, up to 1900 °C (3500 °F)
