The REED R8090 produces a stable acoustic signal at 1000 Hz with two output levels, 94 dB and 114 dB, to check the accuracy of sound level meters with 1/2" large-diameter microphones. Fit it over the microphone, switch on the meter and adjust to the reference level.

Calibration checks on metres are always a good idea, and for many applications, they are required.
