Interchanging anvils allows these micrometres to measure the outside diameters of a variety of workpieces with significant adaptability. The non-rotating spindle prevents workpiece deformation and wear by reducing torsion on softer parts being measured. It also provides constant positioning during measurement. For exact, repeatable measurements, a ratchet-stop mechanism applies homogeneous pressure to a workpiece.
