An electronic test equipment known as an LCR metre is used to measure an electronic component's inductance (L), capacitance (C), and resistance (R). In earlier, simpler iterations of this instrument, the impedance was measured internally and converted for display to the corresponding capacitance or inductance value. If the capacitor or inductor device being tested does not have a major resistive component of impedance, readings should be fairly accurate. Modern designs also assess the Q factor of inductive components, equivalent series resistance of capacitors, and real inductance or capacitance.
